Why does it feel like videos have just gotten needlessly large?
It used to be normal to get a 2.5 hour movie and have it push two gig. Hell, even the old 700mb XVID releases packed a crazy amount of video into a small datasize.
It’s just annoying how gluttonous data is, now that bandwidth is so plentiful.
Even now, downloading a typical movie comes out to 10-15 gig.
I pump it through the 1080p handbrake config I’ve been using for literally years, and the filesize drops back down to 1-1.5 gig.
Absolutely irritating and wasteful.
That being said, another neat project was born out of this.
Once a video is reported as downloaded, it’s moved into a transcode dir, where -surprise- it gets transcoded. and moved back into its original location after deleting the original.
It might fuck up some videos, bugs happen.
Ten movies processed so far, starting size of 140gb, post transcode size, 15gb.
Currently doing this on the entire plex library, the smaller input sizes should make remote viewers get a better stream too, since there’s less overhead for processing and an overall smaller datasize which is friendlier on my tubes.
How is the COVID situation over there?
I’m not sure what you’re asking, what do you mean?
You choose peace or war?
Peace in 99% of situations. Nation wars are counterproductive to a relatively comfortable life EVERYONE is capable of having today. I do not stand with political wars.
War is something pushed by sociopathic politicians (and investors) who have no regard for their constituents’ lives.
The only time I would go to war is if someone was attacking me (or my own), and even then, I would attempt a peaceable solution until there is absolutely no other choice.
So you are a man or woman?
Does it even matter?
I’m pixels behind a screen.
